Australian Good Design Awards

A BAD GORILLA DAY, CHILDREN’S BOOK

The Australian Good Design Awards continues a long and proud legacy of showcasing the very best in design and innovation to a global audience. The Awards are one of the longest-running international design awards in the world, promoting excellence in design and innovation since 1958.

Each year, the Awards attract new and innovative design projects from around the world, celebrating the very best in all areas of design, architecture, engineering, research, fashion and social impact. Entries represent projects across broad sectors and industries and cover everything from the design of everyday products we use, the services we interact with and the places and spaces we occupy to the design of the processes and systems that underpin our businesses, industries, economies and social habits.

In 2021 ‘A Bad Gorilla Day’ children’s book by Australian Author K.S.D’arcy and International Artist Zenja Gammer received a prestigious Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Communication Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

The Good Design Awards Jury commented: “A Bad Gorilla Day is a beautifully designed children’s picture book aimed at helping kids through difficult times. This is a beautiful concept for a story that has been stunningly designed and executed – a visual feast for children’s eyes that will no doubt have a positive impact on anyone who reads it. Well done.”

Author K.S.D’arcy said, “Tonight we go to bed with hearts full of gratitude. Thank you to my amazing A-Team artist Zenzdesign for working alongside me to make this dream a reality. Our dedicated team of publishers Austin Macauley Publishers Ltd thank you for the care you take to publish, distribute, and support our creative endeavours. And of course, Thank you so much, Good Design Australia for taking the time to listen, read and appreciate our vision of a better, healthier, happier and stronger future for our children.”

“Sometimes the world’s biggest problems require the most simple solution.”

Recognised by the World Design Organization (WDO) as Australia’s peak international design endorsement program, the Australian Good Design Awards represents the diverse spectrum of design with 11 design disciplines covering more than 30 categories and sub-categories.

In addition to the design disciplines represented in the Awards, the Good Design Award for Sustainability is awarded to a project that exemplifies excellence in design for sustainability practice and circular economy principles.

This standalone Award category has been established to inspire change and achieve a sustainable future through the application of good design principles.

WHAT IS THE GOOD DESIGN TICK?

The Australian Good Design Award accolade, more commonly known as the Good Design Tick, is among the industry’s most respected and recognised international design endorsement symbols.

The Good Design Tick of approval offers companies a competitive advantage that leads to increased sales and point of sale differentiation. These registered trademarks are visible indicators of good design and a brand’s commitment to excellence in design and innovation.

Consumers can be assured that a product, project or service displaying the Australian Good Design Award trademark has been professionally designed to the highest standards and put through a rigorous design evaluation by an independent panel of design experts using a comprehensive evaluation process.
